We just finished up Weddings Week 2010.  It was an AWESOME bridal show and Boise State University in the Stueckle Sky Box.  The location was beautiful with lots of space, beautiful sunsets in the evenings, and talented vendors.  We really enjoyed talking to Boise brides about their plans (one of our favorite things to do!) and getting to know some of Boise's best wedding vendors like Significant Moments, Floating Feather Day Spa, Studio 51 Designs, BE Productions, Ampersand Studios, Flutterby Floral, Bliss, Greg Hoskins Photography, and MORE!

The week of events wrapped up with a FUN casino party for the Brides and Vendors at the Linen Building in Downtown Boise.  We DJ'd the event and the turn out was great.  Thanks for everyone who came, helped out, and made a GREAT party.  See you at your next event!

Wedding Planning – For the Groom!

Men, when you think about planning a wedding, do you think about choosing the colors, planning refreshments, and buying a dress? No, of course not! But you still play a crucial role in the overall success of the wedding ceremony and reception. After all, if it weren’t for you, there would not be a wedding! So what can you do to be involved but not end up having to choose icing flavors or napkin designs? This blog’s for you!

First, know something about diamonds. You might spend a month (or 3 months) salary on a ring, but what you know can help you avoid paying for more than you receive. Be familiar with the 4 Cs: Cut, Clarity, Carat, and Color. The following website contains some good guidelines to follow when considering a diamond purchase: http://www.thediamondbuyingguide.com/fourcsofdiamonds.html Locally, the knowledgeable salespeople at Lee Read Jewelers are happy to help!

Second, consider the location. Do you know of some great locations where the reception might be held? Maybe a place a buddy or family member has used in the past that you were impressed with. Make the arrangements for a personal tour with your fiancée.

Third, offer suggestions for the wedding music. What song(s) will be most meaningful to you as the first dance with your new wife? Or what would you like to dance to with your mother? Do you want music playing in the background during the ceremony or reception? If so, what type or music? Or better yet, what type of music will you not tolerate?

Fourth, arrange transportation after the wedding. Imagine her surprise when the limousine pulls up to whisk you both off for your wedding night. You can choose the mode of transportation, the company to provide it, and even the final destination. Flowers and candles, once the two of you are finally alone, are a very nice finishing touch.

We at Sound Wave Music are happy to share more tips and tricks for a fun and exciting Idaho wedding. Your satisfaction is our goal. That is why we are Idaho’s #1 wedding DJ. Give us a call today and let the fun begin!

Wedding Luck

By now you’ve surely heard the saying “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue” and you’ve probably even given some thought to your own “somethings” - but do you know the significance of each piece? For many years brides have been honoring this good luck tradition, in fact the Warren Ledger newspaper in Pennsylvania printed the saying in 1894 (but unfortunately I was unable to find an actual facsimile). No one really knows how long ago the saying started, or where but following are the meanings of each:

Something Old represents continuity and a link with the bride’s past, especially her mother and grandmother. Often the bride will choose to wear a piece of old jewelry, an accessory, or an article of clothing that belonged to a female member of her family. This symbolizes a connection with her past.

Something New represents hope for the marriage and the future. Sometimes the bride will choose her wedding dress, shoes, or even wedding ring as the new item but anything new can be used. This is thought to bring luck to the bride for a happy life.

Something Borrowed represents the friends and family the bride can count on for support and love.  The borrowed item is meant to come from a woman who is happily married so her happiness will be passed on to the new bride. It is very important that the bride return the item as soon as possible after the wedding. It is thought best to borrow the item from a woman especially close to the bride-to-be.

Something Blue represents faithfulness, purity, and loyalty as blue is the token color for these values. The bride can wear a blue garter, undergarment, or even have blue frosting on the cake, as long as something blue is present and recognized for its symbolism. The groom can also contribute by wearing or providing something blue to pledge his commitment to being faithful, chaste, and true to the marriage.

Sound Wave Music wishes you the best of luck for your marriage and future together as man and wife. Be sure to contact us for excellent wedding dj and wedding planning services. We are Idaho’s #1 wedding dj and our goal is to make your wedding everything you hope for.

Dance Teacher in Boise

Have you ever been to an event or party with a dance teacher there?   It is great!  Having a dance instructor at your party in Boise can be fun and engaging.   Dance instructors can help everyone to feel comfortable and learn something new.  They are great at working with guests and encouraging them to come out to the dance floor and dance.  They will play music later on during the party that guests can practice too.  You can choose ahead of time what dances would be fun to learn at your party. It could be a line dance or a ballroom style dance.  This is a great way to add dimension to your event.  We have several dance instructors that can teach a variety of dances.  So, if you are looking for a DJ in Boise, Meridian,  Eagle or anywhere in the Treasure Valley, think about a DJ that can also bring a dance instructor.   Have fun with this idea and remember to be creative.

But what happens when the festivities are over and real life starts? Do you know what it takes to make a marriage work? Here are some tips from professionals “in the field” for creating a lasting union. After all, that’s the purpose of getting married, isn’t it?

  1. Ask your partner's advice and listen to the answer.
  2. Comfort each other when you are down.
  3. Be thankful for each other to each other.
  4. Take time out together every so often and get away for a few days.
  5. Agree to disagree.
  6. Show an interest in each other’s dreams and hobbies.
  7. Accept your partner for who they are.
  8. Focus on the positives with each other, in your relationship, and in your life.
  9. Be honest, not only about your thoughts, but about your feelings.
  10. Show respect, trust, appreciation, consideration and kindness.

Not all weddings are first time marriages for either the bride or groom. Often there are children involved who are being blended into a new family. This post identifies some creative and fun ways to involve children in the wedding ceremony and festivities.

  • Have the son “give the bride away.”  (Make sure he is old enough to understand that he is not really giving his mother away though. This could be traumatic J.) Explain to him the symbolism of the action and what it means to you.
  • Traditionally, the father of the bride is asked for permission to marry his daughter. Why not ask the children for permission to marry their mother or father?
  • Invite a daughter be the Maid of Honor and/or son to be the Best Man.
  • Present the child(ren) with rings as well.
  • Write vows to exchange with the child(ren).
  • In the case of a wedding ceremony where the child(ren) might not be present (ie: LDS temple wedding) plan a separate ceremony that the child(ren) can participate in.
  • Involve the child(ren) in the decision making process, ask them their opinion on things such as food, colors, location.
  • Allow the children to assist in selecting the music for your wedding and reception. Youth have a good idea of what is popular today and having this input will expand your selection of music so there really is something for everyone.
Sound Wave Music is Idaho’s #1 wedding DJ and we are happy to share additional ideas with you to assist your plans for a fantastic wedding and reception here in the Treasure Valley and throughout the state of Idaho. (Did we mention we love to DJ weddings in Utah and Oregon too?)

We welcome additional ideas and suggestions on ways you may have for involving children in your wedding and reception planning.

Have you ever thought, if I knew then what I know now, I would do X, Y, and Z different? This blog post lets you in on a few ideas that couples have shared after reflecting on what they would do different if they did their wedding again:

1)      Hire a DJ/MC with a loud speaker to give instructions to guests, especially during the official photo session. It can be a real battle to gather everyone together for photographs. And because most photographers charge by the hour, time spent rounding people up is money spent needlessly.

2)      Don’t settle. If you have your heart set on a specific type of flower or style of dress, get it!

3)      If you are going to serve cupcakes don’t make and frost them yourself. It creates unnecessary stress right before the big day. Recruit friends to do the cupcakes or use a sheet cake instead.

4)      Assign someone to be in charge of your bouquet. After the festivities are over, you will likely be tired and thinking about things other than your bouquet. Later you will be thankful someone else picked it up for you.

5)      Be assertive. Don’t give in to other people’s opinions about plans for your wedding. You have the final say. Thank them for their input then make your own decisions.

6)      Ask the bridesmaids to choose their own dresses (with a few guidelines such as color, modesty, etc.). This will reduce the stress involved in planning and coordinating the perfect match, especially considering the different sizes and style preferences of the bridesmaids.

7)      Plan your songs in advance with your wedding DJ. Educate the DJ on your preferences (likes and dislikes) so the music fits your style. Also, consider older songs (waltzes, polkas, etc.) for older guests earlier in the evening and save the louder “party” songs for later after the older folks have retired.

8)      Serve finger foods instead of a full sit-down meal. This is a huge money-saver.

9)      Plan for inclement weather. If you have an outdoor wedding/reception, make sure you have an alternate location in case it rains. Also, tents do not hold up very well in the wind. Research your location so you know in advance what to expect weather-wise.

10)  Take enough time in planning so you have exactly the wedding you dreamed of. Longer planning time = less stress, less skimping, more perfection!

At Sound Wave Music, we are Boise DJs and we LOVE weddings.  We especially love innovative and creative ideas for weddings in Boise.  We were recently talking with a Boise Bride who told us about Ripple Fountain's 3D Interactive Photo Wall.  We were very interested and are excited to share information about it.  This Photo Wall would be a great addition to any wedding and a creative idea that can make your Boise wedding more special.

The Photo Wall is completely mobile and can be set up at your wedding ceremony and/or reception.  It features preset photo frames that can be filled with photos of your wedding day, engagement, heritage, family, friends, or anything!  Within the wall are also photo frames that are cut out so your guests can go behind the wall and place themselves in the photo frame.  Then photos can be taken.  This is a great way for you to preserve memories of your wedding and your wedding guests.  This is also a great idea for wedding favors for your guests.  Photos can be taken and printed at your reception and then given to your guests to take home.

For more information about Ripple Fountain's 3D Interactive Photo Wall visit their website at www.ripplefountains.com or call 208-908-1114.  The photo wall is $250 and includes Delivery, Setup, Placing Your Photos In The Frames, Tear Down & Pickup.  What a great idea!

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.  Call our DJs at Sound Wave Music for more information on our DJ packages and how we can help make your Boise wedding special.
