One of the biggest decisions brides have to make when planning a wedding is if they should have their wedding indoors or outdoors.  There are definite pros and cons to both and we have put together some helpful factors to consider in making this important decision:

Of course, most brides won't plan an outdoor wedding in McCall in the middle of December - but also, what about an outdoor wedding in the middle of July in Boise?  That can be equally tough for some of your guests.  Here are some things to consider when deciding between and indoor and an outdoor wedding venue:
  • Rain: April, May and June seem to be a little unpredictable when it comes to rain/snow.  Consider indoor or indoor/outdoor venues during these volatile months.  Have a plan for inclement weather.
  • Heat: July, August and September seem to be all around rain safe but can be hot. We recommend considering a tent if your guests will be outdoors in the direct sunlight for more than 20 minutes.  For a ceremony outdoors in the summer, have buckets of chilled water, turn your programs into fans, and have mini umbrellas for some of the elderly folks.  You may even choose to have sunscreen available for guests to use.
  • Seasonal Allergies: Some of your guests may be very sensitive to seasonal allergies and struggle being outside - typically in April and September.
  • Lighting: Talk with your photographer about lighting needs for your photos.  Can you get the photos you want if you are indoors?  If you feel an indoor venue is the best fit, plan to take photos before your ceremony and maybe sneak away for some sunset photos for 15-20 minutes during your reception.
  • Dancing: Looking for a great dance party at your reception?  Keep in mind that most people feel most comfortable to dance once the sun goes down.  This isn't always the case but dancing typically picks up considerably once it is dark.  Indoor venues can create a 'nighttime' feel at any time of day, which can encourage more dancing earlier in the evening.  If having your wedding outdoors, keep in mind that once the sun sets, your party will pick up.
  • Special Effects: Thinking about having a slideshow or some ambiant lighting?  Keep in mind the sun and how these things will be impacted if used outdoors.  Many lighting effects are most impactful later in the evening or indoors.  We had a bride this summer who had an outdoor wedding and was a little disappointed when the slideshow had to be pushed back to a little later in the evening because of the sun.  Keep thiese things in mind as you are planning the special parts of your evening.

There is no right or wrong answer when it comes to choosing an indoor or an outdoor wedding.  Taking into consideration the above factors can help ensure you have a successful celebration for your wedding.  Many brides opt for an indoor/outdoor venue so they can have the best of both worlds.  Some to consider are: The Train Depot, Barber Park, Center at the Park, Eagle Hills Golf Course, Spurwing Country Club, The Grove Hotel, etc.  Let us know if we can suggest any other wonderful venues that best fit your needs.  Best wishes with your planning!

Looking for a wonderful and affordable Boise venue for an event or wedding?  We have a venue coming highly recommended from a Boise Bride we recently DJ'd for - 36th Street Bistro.  We, likewise, had a great experience working at this venue.  36th Street Bistro is located on the corner of Hill Rd and 36th in the back of the 36th Street Garden Center.  If you have never been to the garden center or bistro, stop by and take a look.  It is AMAZING.  Chic.  Contemporary.  Green.  Zen.  Wonderful.

Our Boise Bride was very impressed with the event services the Bistro offered for her wedding reception.  They provide complete catering services which was very helpful for our Bride.  In addition, the price was RIGHT and within her budget while still providing a top quality meal for her guests.  At Bistro you can enjoy your event indoors in the dining area, outdoors on the patio, or BOTH.  There are sliding doors that can bring a very open feel to an indoor/outdoor event.

The staff at the Bistro was very helpful, accommodating, and nice.  We had a very good experience and recommend that you check it out!  Also, visit their website for a list of upcoming events at the Bistro - including occasional live music!

We just learned about a great incentive for any Boise Bride who is considering having their wedding at The Holiday Inn in Boise in 2010.

"InterContinental Hotels Group's Holiday Inn chain launched a campaign May 26 to increase its profile in the weddings industry. Consumers who book a reception from June 1 to December 30 at any Holiday Inn could receive a gift card up to $750 toward their honeymoon. Members of the company's Priority Club Rewards program can also win prizes through the “Honeymoon on Us” contest, which Holiday Inn will promote heavily on Twitter. The initiative was created internally. Loyalty program members who follow @IHGDeals on Twitter will see a Tweet from the hotel brand at least once a day with an option to win. “Twitter is a good way for us to get the word out about this.,” said Del Ross, VP of US sales and marketing at IHG. “We launched the @IHG_Deals Twitter account in December for a different promotion, and it was really successful — we made some money off of it and created some Priority Club enrollment.” Consumers can enter drawings for “massive amounts” of Priority Club Rewards points they can redeem for merchandise or gift cards, Ross said. The grand prize is enough points to win a full registry. The contest will run for about a month." (Nathan Golia)

This is a great incentive for any Bride still considering her Boise venue options.  The Holiday Inn Boise Airport has great event facilities and is perfect for a wedding reception or party.  Their largest room can accommodate 450 people, offers in house catering, all tables/chairs/linens, and more.  Visit their WEBSITE for more details.

Best wishes planning your special Boise wedding.

We just finished up Weddings Week 2010.  It was an AWESOME bridal show and Boise State University in the Stueckle Sky Box.  The location was beautiful with lots of space, beautiful sunsets in the evenings, and talented vendors.  We really enjoyed talking to Boise brides about their plans (one of our favorite things to do!) and getting to know some of Boise's best wedding vendors like Significant Moments, Floating Feather Day Spa, Studio 51 Designs, BE Productions, Ampersand Studios, Flutterby Floral, Bliss, Greg Hoskins Photography, and MORE!

The week of events wrapped up with a FUN casino party for the Brides and Vendors at the Linen Building in Downtown Boise.  We DJ'd the event and the turn out was great.  Thanks for everyone who came, helped out, and made a GREAT party.  See you at your next event!

Your wedding location can help set the mood for your wedding ceremony and reception.  In our experience DJing weddings in the Boise area, your venue can be just as important as your DJ or Photographer.  Here is a list of questions to ask your venue manager  to see if it will be the right fit for your special day:
  • What's the decor like? Does it fit your style and wedding colors? Will you have to spend a lot of money on flowers and decorations to make it beautiful?
  • Do they have an in-house caterer, and do you like that food? (While an in-house caterer can be easier and cheaper, sometimes the food is not as beautiful as the room. So make sure you taste it!) Do they have a limitation on which outside caterers you can use?
  • Do they have adequate coat check and bathroom facilities?
  • Is the wedding venue wheelchair accessible? If not, are there many stairs to climb? How close is the parking to the ceremony and reception rooms?
  • What's the cancellation policy?
  • Is there a payment schedule? What kind of deposits are required?
  • Are there any hidden costs? (Before you sign the contract, read it carefully.)
  • What are the overtime charges?
  • Do they have a liquor license?
  • Will they allow you to bring your own liquor? (This is usually cheaper, even with the customary corkage fee.)
  • Is there room in the wedding venue for a wedding DJ, band and/or dancing?
  • Is there a space for the bride and groom to change and/or relax?
  • Where will you take photographs? Is there a park nearby, or do the coordinators have recommended spots on the grounds?
  • Who will be supervising and troubleshooting before the day of your wedding? Can you meet them now?
  • Where can your guests park? Are there extra fees for parking? Do they have valet parking?
  • Is the wedding venue convenient to public transportation, especially in big cities? How long will it take your guests to get there?
  • Especially in museums or private clubs, are there limitations on decorations? Do they limit food and drinks to only certain areas of the wedding venue?
  • Are candles or other open flames allowed?
  • If its an outdoor location, do they have any backup plans for rain or other inclement weather? If not, is there a place that you can put up a tent?
  • Does the event center require special insurance or licenses from your other wedding professionals?
  • Do they allow disc jockeys?  If so, can you choose your own?
When Looking at Separate Wedding Reception Venues and Ceremony Locations in Idaho
  • How far is it from one location to the other?
  • Do the two places have the same level of formality and a coordinating style?
  • Do they both accommodate about the same number of guests?
  • Does the wedding reception venue have any experience with weddings from your ceremony location?
When Looking for Idaho Wedding Venues for Both Ceremony and Reception
  • Do they own enough chairs for the ceremony, or will they need to be rented?
  • Does the wedding venue have an entirely separate area for the ceremony? {It is not uncommon that while the guests are at the cocktail hour, the caterers will transform the ceremony room into the dining room and/or dance floor.)
  • If not, how long does it typically take for the staff to change over the room?
Hopefully, these questions will help you cover the basics while you're looking at wedding venues. In your search for a wedding venue, there will probably be even more questions that arise for you personally. For example, you may want the menu to reflect your heritage, or with a large wedding party, you may need ample parking for limousines.

Good luck with your wedding planning! Call Sound Wave Music today for more information and let us take care of your wedding DJ needs.
