We are so excited about a Boise Wedding we DJ'd this past weekend at the Crystal Ballroom in downtown Boise!  The Bride and Groom were SO in love and it showed throughout all of our planning sessions and during their wedding.  We really grew to love this couple through teaching them dance lessons before their big day.  They danced to a wonderful Contemporary Christian song called Inevitable by Anberlin (you can listen to it above).  We taught them a single-step dance routine that they danced beautifully at their reception.

This couple had some great ideas to make their reception special and fun for their friends & family.  They held their ceremony at a church nearby and took some wedding photos immediately following the ceremony.  While the guests were enjoying drinks and snacks waiting for them to arrive, we taught them dance lessons!  The  dance lessons were very well received and were A LOT of fun for the guests.  It was a great way to get the guests involved and to create fun memories for them.

Another great idea this Boise wedding couple had was a spotlight dance for the mother and father of the Bride.  We taught a dance routine to the Mother & Father of the Bride and they performed a dance to the song they danced to on their wedding day 36 years ago.  It was a wonderful way to recognize the parents of the Bride and Groom and celebrate marriage through the generations.

We loved providing Dance Lessons and Boise DJ services for this Bride and Groom and wish them a lifetime of happiness together.

Dance Teacher in Boise

Have you ever been to an event or party with a dance teacher there?   It is great!  Having a dance instructor at your party in Boise can be fun and engaging.   Dance instructors can help everyone to feel comfortable and learn something new.  They are great at working with guests and encouraging them to come out to the dance floor and dance.  They will play music later on during the party that guests can practice too.  You can choose ahead of time what dances would be fun to learn at your party. It could be a line dance or a ballroom style dance.  This is a great way to add dimension to your event.  We have several dance instructors that can teach a variety of dances.  So, if you are looking for a DJ in Boise, Meridian,  Eagle or anywhere in the Treasure Valley, think about a DJ that can also bring a dance instructor.   Have fun with this idea and remember to be creative.

Do you love to dance?  Do you want to learn how to ballroom dance but not sure where or how?  By reading some of our past blog posts or exploring the Sound Wave Music website, you can see that we are passionate about Ballroom Dancing!  While we do teach private lessons, we have a great resource for you if you are looking for a ballroom dance group that teaches FREE lessons in Boise.

First, a little history...Adam and Kristin met and danced on the Del Sol Ballroom Dance Team in Boise.  This was a performance team with about 20 couples that danced all around the Boise area, including Nampa, Emmett, and beyond!  This was a great team that taught Adam and Kristin much of their skills in dancing.  The team was co-sponsored through the Boise LDS Institute and through Boise State University.  In 2007, the team shifted from a performance team to a dance club.  It is now sponsored through the Boise Idaho University Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

This is great news for you if you would love to have some FREE dance lessons from professionals.  The group is run by Michael and Liz Lee who danced on the Brigham Young University dance team, one of the most well known and respected dance teams in the world.  They are experienced, fun, creative, and they LOVE what they do.  So, want all the details??  Here ya go....

Have you ever wanted to learn the dances that the professionals know? Do you wish you could be one of those people whose dancing everyone admires and applauds?

In addition to providing DJ music for weddings and parties in the Treasure Valley, Sound Wave Music offers dance lessons too! The type of dance depends on your taste in music and your motivation to learn!

Here are instructions for a simple dance that can be performed to any music with a 4/4 beat. The Two-Step is normally danced to country music but go ahead and be creative! You might be surprised at how easy it is and how much fun you can have.

Learn to dance the Two-Step

The Country Western Two-Step (also known as the Texas Two-Step or just Two-Step) is normally danced to country music in 4/4 time with a tempo range of 170-200 beats per minute. Beginners should start with a tempo range of 155 to 175 beats per minute.

Here is a list of songs you can dance the Two-Step to:
  • “Past the Point of Rescue” - Hal Ketchum
  • "Small Town Saturday Night" - Hal Ketchum
  • "Mercury Blues" - Alan Jackson
  • "Chattahoochie" - Alan Jackson
  • "Kick Back" - Ty England
  • "Should Have Asked Her Faster" - Ty England
  • "It Wouldn’t Hurt to Have Wings" - Mark Chestnutt
  • "Goin' Through the Big D" - Mark Chestnutt
  • "When the Wrong One Loves You Right" - Wade Hayes
Instructions for dancing the Two-Step

Leader

Step 1: Stand with your feet together facing your partner.
Step 2: Put your right hand on your partner's waist.
Step 3: Put your left hand out to your side with your arm slightly bent.
Step 4: Gently grasp your partner's hand.
Step 5: Wait for the music to start.
Step 6: On the first beat, step forward quickly with your left foot.
Step 7: On the second beat, step forward quickly with your right foot.
Step 8: On the third beat, step forward again with your left foot, but slowly.
Step 9: Pause through the fourth beat.
Step 10: On the fifth beat, step forward slowly with your right foot.
Step 11: Pause through the sixth beat, then pull your left foot even with your right.
Repeat.

Follower

Step 1: Place your left hand on the leader's right shoulder.
Step 2: Bend your right elbow and place the palm of your right hand lightly on his outstretched palm.
Step 3: Do the opposite of what your partner does. Move your right foot back when the leader moves his left foot forward on the first beat.
Step 4: Continue following the directions for the leader, but in reverse - stepping back with your left foot when he steps forward with his right.
Repeat.

HAVE FUN!

Our DJ service just completed an awesome event at Boise State called Boise Youth Conference.  This was an uplifting conference for youth from around the Boise area.  All in all, there were about 600-700 youth present.  We started the day by providing dance lessons for the youth in the Hatch Ballroom in the Student Union Building.  We had four groups of about 180 youth in each group.  It was a blast!  We taught the Night Club 2 Step dance style to a fun, new Akon song and the Electric Slide.  We have been surprised at how the Electric Slide is making a comeback in the dancing world!  We taught the Electric Slide and Salsa at a 19 year old birthday party a few weeks ago and all the youth loved it.  Providing dance lessons in the Boise area is one of our favorite things to do.  We teach all styles of dance including salsa, cha-cha, social dance, waltz, foxtrot, line dances, and more.  Dance lessons are a great addition to any event and learning to dance is fun for groups of all ages.

Later in the evening we provided disc jockey services for the youth during their dance.  They had a great time…and so did we!  The dance was held on the back patio of the Student Union Building.  It was quite a phenomenon to see so many youth all in the same place.  We played a lot of fun party music and the youth danced and danced.  We loved being part of this event which provides a positive direction for so many youth in Boise and the Treasure Valley.
