Your event is coming up and you really want a DJ to play great music and coordinate your special activities - but how do you know you are getting a great Boise DJ?  This can be a big decision because your entertainment can make or break your event.  Here are our recommendations for making sure you have a great DJ to make your Boise event FUN, MEMORABLE, and UPBEAT:

1. Meet with DJs and Interview them.  Don't be afraid to ask LOTS of questions about how the DJ will make your event what you are hoping it will be.  At Sound Wave Music, we are always happy to meet in person to talk about our services, answer questions, show you photos from our past events, and more!

2. Ask for references or reviews - and utilize them!  The best way to know how good a DJ is is to talk to past clients or to read reviews from past clients.  This will let you know how professional the DJ is, what kind of customer service they offer, and if their past clients have been please with their services.  Here is a recent review we received on Google Maps from a wedding client we DJ'd for on June 5th:

"I didn't think a DJ was a must at a wedding, but with all the stress and confusion having Adam and Sound Wave Music there to keep the wedding on pace and in order was the best thing besides getting married to my wife. They were very professional and cared about how our wedding turned out. They made the wedding fun, enjoyable and did exactly as we asked. With all the stress during the wedding, I found myself lost during the reception and forgetting what was suppose to happen next, just looking up at Adam he got his microphone and kept the ball rolling. He was very entertaining and even came out and danced with us for a while, busting out his sweet dance moves. There equipment was very clean and they looked very professional. We also had a special music mix that we wanted and he edited the song just as we asked. If you want a great DJ, call these guys. They are not overpriced and work with you in any aspect. Adam, Kristen, and all the Sound Wave Employees are all truly very good people. Thanks for everything. Erika and Chris"

Feel free to  check out more reviews from our clients HERE.  At Sound Wave Music, we feel that we are Boise's Best DJ service and we will go above and beyond to provide top quality service for your event.  You will be pleased!

Boise Wedding Planning: Setting the Date

You’re engaged! And now it’s time to choose the date and start planning. Setting a date can become stressful on its own because of the many factors involved in doing so. Some things to consider when setting a date are:
  1. You can’t please everyone. As you begin to consider dates for your wedding you will be inclined  to check with your family and friends to be sure they can “make it” on that specific date. After awhile this can become an impossible task. Consider those whom you definitely want, or even need, to be in attendance – parents, siblings, best man, maid of honor, etc. then set a date and time based on your preference and their availability. It is easier to plan around a few people than to try to please everyone.
  2. Consider your budget and the time of year.  Peak times can be much more expensive than say a Sunday afternoon or a Tuesday evening. In addition, hotels often offer discounted rates for Sunday through Thursday reservations.  Also, during certain times of year vendors can be higher priced as well. June and September tend to be the most popular months to have a wedding and are likely to have higher costs associated with venues, etc. Evening rates tend to be higher than afternoon rates too. Check with your potential sites and vendors to determine if scheduling a wedding on certain dates or at certain times will save you money in the long run.
  3. Consider the risk of an outdoor wedding during allergy season. It is possible that an outdoor wedding on a beautiful Spring day could turn into a sneeze fest. If either you or your fiancé(e) are prone to allergies, another time of year might be more practical and avoid the embarrassment of “I...achoo!...do.”
  4. Plan well in advance. Reception centers and vendors book months in advance. Select a few alternate dates and plan well enough ahead of time so that you aren’t resigned to using a vendor or location that you really don’t want.
  5. Breathe. This is your wedding and you have the final say, whether it be date, location, time, colors, food, or otherwise, stick to your guns, and BREATHE!

Stress Management for Your Boise Wedding Planning

The time you spend planning your wedding can be one of the most exciting times in your life; it can also be one of the most stressful. With so many decisions to make, deadlines to meet, money to spend, questions to answer, etc…etc… it is easy to get irritable, overwhelmed, and stressed out. This post provides suggestions for keeping your stress level low and your energy at its peak.
  1. Get plenty of sleep: Adults generally need 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night. A power nap during the day doesn’t hurt either. This will keep your energy up and your body healthy.
  2. Talk about it: Have a trusted confidant who will allow you to talk, vent, cry, or scream, without passing judgment or becoming emotional themselves. Sometimes all you need is to talk it out!
  3. Practice focused breathing: Sit in a comfortable position and take a deep breath. The deep breath oxygenates the blood, which ‘wakes up’ the brain, relaxes muscles and quiets the mind. Then, breathing normally, in through your nose and out through your mouth, focus on your breaths. (Sometimes it helps to focus if you visualize your breath as a color or an image.) If your mind wanders, gently bring your attention back to your breathing. Continue this focused breathing for as long as you wish. Focused breathing is also a good practice if you have difficulty falling asleep at night – remain focused on your breathing until you fall asleep. Works like a charm!
  4. Journaling: Take a few minutes each day to write about your thoughts, feelings, ideas, plans, progress, and dreams. Writing is incredibly therapeutic and calming. In addition, this activity moves the thoughts swimming around in your mind onto the paper so your mind can relax.  Plus, you will cherish these memories later in life!

There are a lot of reasons to LOVE Boise - the river, the greenbelt, the kindness of the people, the outdoor activities, and the list keeps going.  One reason we LOVE Boise is because of Boise's Weddings!!

~ There are so many BEAUTIFUL places around Boise that are perfect for wedding ceremonies and reception
~ Boise has many WONDERFUL wedding options for indoor and outdoor celebrations - even combining the two!
~ Boise has some AMAZING vendors that make weddings fun, special, and unique!  Brides can count on their vendors to deliver  EXCEPTIONAL service so they can relax and enjoy their special day.
~ Boise brides are STUNNING, FUN, CREATIVE, and DOWN TO EARTH.  One of the things we love most about what we do is planning with our wedding couples.  We love their ideas on how to make their wedding personal to them and ways to create memories for their friends and family.

Sometimes people ask us if we have any Bridezillas (as they expect from all the shows on TV!).  We tell them that our brides are relaxed, hip, fun, and creative.  We have enjoyed EVERY wedding experience we have had.  We think this is partially because Boise is such a great place to celebrate love and make memories together.

At Sound Wave Music, we are Boise's Wedding DJ!  We can help plan your special day and provide the entertainment services that will make a lasting impression on you and your guests.  Contact us today for more information!

We are so excited about a Boise Wedding we DJ'd this past weekend at the Crystal Ballroom in downtown Boise!  The Bride and Groom were SO in love and it showed throughout all of our planning sessions and during their wedding.  We really grew to love this couple through teaching them dance lessons before their big day.  They danced to a wonderful Contemporary Christian song called Inevitable by Anberlin (you can listen to it above).  We taught them a single-step dance routine that they danced beautifully at their reception.

This couple had some great ideas to make their reception special and fun for their friends & family.  They held their ceremony at a church nearby and took some wedding photos immediately following the ceremony.  While the guests were enjoying drinks and snacks waiting for them to arrive, we taught them dance lessons!  The  dance lessons were very well received and were A LOT of fun for the guests.  It was a great way to get the guests involved and to create fun memories for them.

Another great idea this Boise wedding couple had was a spotlight dance for the mother and father of the Bride.  We taught a dance routine to the Mother & Father of the Bride and they performed a dance to the song they danced to on their wedding day 36 years ago.  It was a wonderful way to recognize the parents of the Bride and Groom and celebrate marriage through the generations.

We loved providing Dance Lessons and Boise DJ services for this Bride and Groom and wish them a lifetime of happiness together.

Looking for ways to make your Boise wedding day special and unique?  Sound Wave Music provides Boise Wedding DJ Services and Wedding Dance Lessons to make your day one you will remember for a lifetime.  Contact Us today to start planning your big day.

Creative Marriage Proposals

Just for fun, and for something a little different, I have collected some creative marriage proposal stories. I hope you enjoy them, and if you have not proposed yet, these might even give you some fun ideas of your own.
  1. I was a poor art student in college living 17 hours away from my girlfriend. I wanted to propose to her in my own unique way. So I wrote out my true feelings for her on illustration board. I then made it look over 100 years old by applying an aging varnish and crackling varnish. I had it framed in this 18th century style frame I bought at a cheap art store. Then I arranged with the exhibit director at the local museum in her town to have it hung in a gallery space. (The director didn't charge me, she loved the idea) I surprised my girlfriend on her graduation weekend by flying in. (Before I saw her I had stopped at the museum to drop off my framed piece). My girlfriend had to run errands all day for her graduation, but I asked her if we could stop at the museum. I explained to her (and lied to her) that a friend of mine from art school happened to have some work on display at the local art museum. I told her I realized she was busy that day but if we could just stop in and see it because it was the last day for his exhibit. We stopped in and I let her walk in the room and look at the art work. Finally she saw a piece of writing hung on the wall that had her name at the top. She read it and finally realized what I had done! By the time she got to the end, I was on one knee and proposed! She loved it, and the best part was she got to show all her classmates her ring and tell the story at graduation!
  2. I found a farmer and paid him to cut out a 7 acre marriage proposal in his field. Then I flew my fiancée over the field and proposed to her on our way to a family cabin.
  3. My girlfriend loved flowers. I took her to a flower nursery where I incorporated the assistance of the manager. Amongst the brightly, yellow colored flowers, I arranged to have potted, red colored, flowers placed in the nursery that spelled out the words..."Susan, will you marry me, Brad". I further hid my spelling by covering the red - worded - flowers with yellow petals. Then, on cue, the fans were turned on and the loose petals were blown away to reveal my message. She cried and said yes. Directly behind us was a rose arrangement where I had the ring resting on top of a rose bud. She stills talks about it today.
  4. I had always wanted to go on a hot air balloon ride ever since I was a little girl. I remember one night I had mentioned it to my boyfriend during a talk about silly memories. Anyway, it was on my birthday and I was so thrilled that we were going to go. He couldn't have planned it better! Being excited, I invited close family and a few friends to take pictures (as I had planned) when we got down. Apparently he had arranged for a lot more people to come and I had no clue about this. So, we were in the hot air balloon and he was telling me how much he loved me. It was perfect. He looked surprised at something, and I looked over the side to see. He had told them to arrange their cars in the words “Marry Me. It was so amazing! After that all of our friends came down to take pictures of us. It just meant so much to me that he had planned this out so well, and arranged over 130 people to show up!
  5. I went over to her house at four in the morning and placed a note on her windshield telling her to have a good day at work. Next to the note, there was a window paint pen. She drove to work probably wondering what was going on. As she made the final turn onto the back road to her work, along the side of the road, I placed signs that say: (1) There is a guy (2) Named "my name" (3) That loves a girl (4) Named "her name" (5) And he wants to spend the rest of his life with her (6) And he wants to know if.... And then as she pulled into the parking lot, my vehicle was sitting in the parking lot with the back glass facing her. On the back window I wrote with the window paint pen..."her name" will you marry me??? And right below that there is 2 boxes: one for yes and one for no for her to check with her window paint pen. Then I got on one knee next to my vehicle with ring in one hand and dozen roses in the other.

Boise Weddings on a Budget – Creating the Budget

Before you start to plan a wedding the single most important thing you can do is create a budget, and then stick to it! This post is created as a guide to planning your wedding according to your budget.

First, decide what your budget is. What is the most you can afford to spend and who will pay for each part? Here is a link to a traditional  “who pays for what” list http://www.ourmarriage.com/html/who_pays_for_what.html but remember, nothing is set in stone and, depending on finances, some adjustments may need to be made.

Once you have decided on your budget, and who is responsible for each, get out your calculator. Here is a breakdown of costs, and the % of your budget to be allotted for each. (See our earlier “Wedding on a Budget” posts for money saving tips and tricks.)
  1. The reception, including the site, food, rentals, cake, and drinks will consume the largest part of your budget at 50%. The money you can save in this area will have the largest impact.
  2. Next is the wedding attire at 11%. This includes clothing and accessories for both bride and groom.
  3. Photography comes in third at 9%. Shop around to get the best deal, without sacrificing quality.
  4. The cost for the flowers is next at 8% including the bride’s bouquet, groom’s boutonniere, corsages for the mothers and bridesmaids, and boutonnieres for the groomsmen.
  5. For the music, you should expect to spend 8% of your budget, but check our prices for the best deal. We can save you a bunch of money here!
  6. The rings for both bride and groom should total 5% of your wedding budget, including engraving and sizing.
  7. The invitations, response cards, and thank you cards will run about 3% of your budget.
  8. The ceremony, if a paid one, should run you no more than 3% of your budget, this includes fees for the officiant and marriage license.
  9. Wedding transportation services will run about 2% as well, including shuttles for wedding party, transportation to and from the ceremony and reception, and any parking attendant fees.
  10. And finally, don’t forget the gifts for the bridesmaids and groomsmen for about 1% of your budget.
Keeping a careful accounting of your spending will help you stay on track during the planning process. Be sure to keep all your receipts and contracts to avoid disappointment later if something doesn’t fit right, or other unexpected events occur.

Please feel free to share any wedding planning tips and tricks here and contact Sound Wave Music right away for the highest quality Boise DJ wedding music service at the best prices in the valley. Your satisfaction is our goal.

We just finished up Weddings Week 2010.  It was an AWESOME bridal show and Boise State University in the Stueckle Sky Box.  The location was beautiful with lots of space, beautiful sunsets in the evenings, and talented vendors.  We really enjoyed talking to Boise brides about their plans (one of our favorite things to do!) and getting to know some of Boise's best wedding vendors like Significant Moments, Floating Feather Day Spa, Studio 51 Designs, BE Productions, Ampersand Studios, Flutterby Floral, Bliss, Greg Hoskins Photography, and MORE!

The week of events wrapped up with a FUN casino party for the Brides and Vendors at the Linen Building in Downtown Boise.  We DJ'd the event and the turn out was great.  Thanks for everyone who came, helped out, and made a GREAT party.  See you at your next event!

Wedding Planning – For the Groom!

Men, when you think about planning a wedding, do you think about choosing the colors, planning refreshments, and buying a dress? No, of course not! But you still play a crucial role in the overall success of the wedding ceremony and reception. After all, if it weren’t for you, there would not be a wedding! So what can you do to be involved but not end up having to choose icing flavors or napkin designs? This blog’s for you!

First, know something about diamonds. You might spend a month (or 3 months) salary on a ring, but what you know can help you avoid paying for more than you receive. Be familiar with the 4 Cs: Cut, Clarity, Carat, and Color. The following website contains some good guidelines to follow when considering a diamond purchase: http://www.thediamondbuyingguide.com/fourcsofdiamonds.html Locally, the knowledgeable salespeople at Lee Read Jewelers are happy to help!

Second, consider the location. Do you know of some great locations where the reception might be held? Maybe a place a buddy or family member has used in the past that you were impressed with. Make the arrangements for a personal tour with your fiancée.

Third, offer suggestions for the wedding music. What song(s) will be most meaningful to you as the first dance with your new wife? Or what would you like to dance to with your mother? Do you want music playing in the background during the ceremony or reception? If so, what type or music? Or better yet, what type of music will you not tolerate?

Fourth, arrange transportation after the wedding. Imagine her surprise when the limousine pulls up to whisk you both off for your wedding night. You can choose the mode of transportation, the company to provide it, and even the final destination. Flowers and candles, once the two of you are finally alone, are a very nice finishing touch.

We at Sound Wave Music are happy to share more tips and tricks for a fun and exciting Idaho wedding. Your satisfaction is our goal. That is why we are Idaho’s #1 wedding DJ. Give us a call today and let the fun begin!
